Sarah Saleh: The Sounds of Silence

The Sounds of Silence explores the ghost towns of Tangier, specifically Ibn Battuta (2006) and Cherafate (2009). From recording sounds, videos, and impressions from these speculative urban spaces, we created a fictional sonic and printed zine with the help of local participants from the archives we collected. The riso printed zine is a poetic investigation into urban silence, memory, and the politics of abandonment. It invites us to rethink these unfinished developments not as failures, but as complex traces of collective histories and possible futures.
