Francesco Boscarino and Giuseppina Maranzani: Sospese

Sospese is positioned at the intersection between an artist’s book and a catalog, a journey of gradual discovery of the works featured in the exhibition of the same name, among nameless figures who become icons and guardians of a culture and society that can no longer be placed in a single time period.

The selection of portraits produced on glass plates in the early 20th century is part of the heritage preserved by the Boscarino Archive, which conserves and promotes the work of photographers Giuseppe and Francesco Boscarino and Giuseppina Maranzani, active between 1899 and 2000 in Mazara del Vallo, a town in western Sicily.

Sospese is the result of the first survey of an extraordinarily vast archive, where the traditional process of conservation, cataloging, and scientific study is complemented by an equally powerful tool: poetry.

The publication has a print run of 200 numbered copies, handcrafted in an environmentally friendly manner, printed in Risograph® with rice bran oil-based inks on recycled and/or certified sustainable paper.
