Ash Kilmartin: Recipes for a Book Launch
From the website of the Artist:
“In June 2022 I made a book called FLOWERS FLOWERS FLOWERS FLOWERS FLOWERS, based in part on Dorothy Iannone’s ‘A Cookbook’ (1969/2019), at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Kasterlee, BE. In September 2022 I launched FLOWERS at an other world project space, Rotterdam, NL. For this occasion I also cooked a number of dishes from Dorothy’s book, with a few alterations. These are the recipes.
All the dishes here are ‘after’ dishes of the same name in A Cookbook; in some cases, I already knew a better recipe, or just made my own adjustments after trying out the original.
There are as many forms of reading as there are text, and I thought I had read A Cookbook very thoroughly, until I started using it as a cookbook. I now appreciate better the work of recipe testers and editors (I did not employ one for this book: may your efforts to follow these page be as confused as mine trying to follow Dorothy’s). There’s also something to be said about the way tastes and kitchen norms change over decades. Preparing for the launch, I also wanted to make sure that any vegan, nut-allergic, gluten-intolerant and lactose-intolerant friends would all eat well.”
