Reproductions — a Contemporary Approach to Reading Images

‘Reproductions’ examines the principles of meme making – with a focus on classical art memes –, its cultural relevance, and what developments enabled this practice. In every meme there is a contrast between the source material and the new (super)imposed meaning which adds to the humor of the image. Our interest in the contrasts between words and image, between intent and result, between context and origin results in a carefully curated publication consisting of four written texts and three visual essays.
