This book consists of a meandering text by editor Dieuwertje Hehewerth, a writer and artist based in Amsterdam, which follows her travels to Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris, and Rome in search of independent art spaces and initiatives, along with contributions in various forms from these.

From outlining the context in which they operate, to interviews or presenting themselves and what they do, or as a space to exhibit, the publication covers more than 60 notable art spaces and initiatives. Named after jumping spiders, the book considers how the similarly large and pervasive family of independent art spaces and initiatives operates through a variety of angles and approaches.
