Erika Verlato: Masquerades
The glove, disposable, liturgical, ornamental, spatial, protective, long and short, patent or silk, is the garment of the hand from which it borrows its symbolism. By comparing archival images and oil paintings on canvas, this book aims through the replication of the glove figure, to amplify the psychological quality of color understood as an essential model of inner representation of all form. Masquerade is a book about gloves and aims to show how the single object can be declined in different ways over time. The edition is structured with black-and-white archival images alternating with oil-on-canvas works in which red is the predominant color. This edition was realized on the occasion of My Lady’s Glove by Erika Verlato’s solo show curated by Luca Reffo at Squero Castello in Venice by Zuecca Projects in collaboration with Venice Academy of Fine Arts. 29 June – 28 July, 2023
