Lucy Stein & Penny Florence: 19 Tails

19 Tails is a collaborative visual poem by painter Lucy Stein and poet Penny Florence. Drawing from Cornish folklore, the publication brings together snippets of Stein’s expressive paintings and Florence’s poetic word-play to form an ecofeminist creation story that unfolds across 19 spreads.

Accompanied by an introduction by writer and curator Anna Souter and a map of ancient sites in West Cornwall, 19 Tails is an exploration of the power of language, of feminist collaboration, of “mutation over stasis.”
