MacGuffin #15: The Stitch
The stitch is a modest tool, but its reach is vast. It holds clothes, blankets, photographs, even the magazine you’re reading now. It shows up in textiles and tech, in scars and seams, and in the language that we use to talk about connection: stitching things together, coming apart at the seams. We’re drawn to stitches for their double nature: they connect, they repair, and if ignored. they unravel. A broken seam can wreck a gar-ment. A loose thread can short a cable. A glitch in code can send the internet haywire. But just as easily, one well-placed stitch can fix what’s broken, manage tension, show new imaginations, or even new identities.
