CATALOG #22: Beard. Man. Jug. Rubble. Woman. Vessel with Kasia Fudakowski

‘Catalog’ is a serial publication about cataloging, written by Lieven Lahaye and designed by Ott Metusala. Issue 22 is part of an ongoing sub-series of ‘Catalog’ on invisibility and explores the idea of ‘vesseling’. Through documentation of a performance by Kasia Fudakowski which explores the idea of the Trümmerfrau figure as a vessel, continually filled and emptied with different, conflicting political ideologies and compares it to the equally varied history-of-use of the traditional type of stoneware jug known as a Bartmannskrug. The publication features documentation of a performance at ChertLüdde Books, cocktail recipes based on the Bartmannskrug’s history and the Trümmerfrau (rubble women) legend, as well as ‘Ending up’, a text by Lieven Lahaye.
Kasia Fudakowski (1985, London) lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University, graduating in 2006 before moving to Berlin. Her diverse and playful practice, which includes sculpture, film, performance and writing, explores social riddles through material encounters, surreal logic and comic theory.
Lieven Lahaye (1985, Belgium) is an artist and publisher, interested in the value of ephemeral information and amateur practices. He produces printed matter, texts, objects and performances with the aim of cataloging, reactivating, highlighting and sharing information. He’s currently an artist-in-residence at WIELS, Brussels.
Ott Metusala (1988, Estonia) is a graphic designer with a focus on typography, book design and publishing. In addition to various self-initiated and commissioned projects, he is also co-managing the Bookbinding Workshop at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
