Artist talk by DIANN BAUER (Laboria Cuboniks)

Thursday February 28, 8pmThe third iteration of Cineclub, ‘CINECLUB #3: Alienation’, invites artist and writer Diann Bauer. Bauer is part of the working group Laboria Cuboniks with whom she co-wrote ‘Xenofeminism: A Politics for Alienation in 2015’ (laboriacuboniks.net).
Xenofeminism (XF) is a gender abolitionist, anti-naturalist, technomaterialist form of posthumanism aiming to infect a wide range of fields and working from the assumption that any society worth constructing, would take feminism as a foundational principle.
Diann Bauer’s collaborative practice encompasses painting and time-based media as well as platforms for the conception of speculative futures, such as A.S.T which operates in the fields of art, architecture and design.
Bauer has screened and exhibited internationally at Tate Britain, the ICA and The Showroom, London, The Sharjah Biennale 13, UAE, Deste Foundation, Athens, The New Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park, New York. She has taught and lectured widely at universities and cultural institutions including: Cornell University, Yale University and Cooper Union (US), HKW (Germany), DAI (Netherlands), Ashkal Alwan (Lebanon), Goldsmiths, The Baltic, The Tate and the ICA (UK).
Cineclub is an annual film-workshop series of art space Nieuwe Vide in Haarlem. ‘CINECLUB #3: Alienation’ is organized and conceptualized by curator Katayoun Arian in collaboration with filmmaker Bernardo Zanotta. This year’s iteration consists of a series of workshops and public events that draws on selected readings and films, approaching different currents that relate to the notion of ‘alienation’ including (post)cyber feminism, xenofeminism, and activisms more generally, discussing their impact on feminist theory, artistic practices and spectatorship. Participants of ‘CINECLUB #3: Alienation’ are Vita Evangelista, Nadja Henss, Asja Novak, Irma Oldenburg, Adelheid Smit, Silvia Ulloa, Aiwen Yin.
