NARRATIVE MACHINES: EPISODE 5 by Ghita Skali
with a reading by Ghita Skali, followed by a conversation with Aude Christel Mgba at 8.30pm
Thursday September 22, 8pm‘Narrative Machines: Episode 5’ is the 5th episode of a series of work by the artist Ghita Skali. The project is developed from research into the origins of intriguing anecdotes which appeared in the media and hint towards the ambiguity of fact in our post-truth reality. ‘In Narrative Machines’, Skali presents speculative narratives that reveal and complicate relations between contemporary mythology and the formation of power.
‘Narrative Machines: Episode 5’ is an artist’s book that is disguised as a medical publication and written by six fictional women characters from Morocco in free wheeling, that clothes truth with falsehood. Co-written with Ayla Mrabett and Kaoutar Chaqchaq and designed by Roxane Maillet, using wry irony and Google English, it comments on paranoia, fake news, patriarchy, power and media ganging together in the Maghreb (and everywhere else). But it also shows a chosen community of women who confide, support each other and laugh a good load. ‘Narrative Machines: Episode 5’ was published in the beginning of 2022 by Paraguay Press, Paris.
