THE HOUR BEFORE SUNSET by Milena Bonila
with music by DJ Bebé, a reading by Vivian Ziherl and a projection by Milena Bonilla
Thursday November 23, 8pmJoin us for the Amsterdam launch of Milena Bonilla’s book “The Hour Before Sunset Has a Magic of Its Own,” a publication that celebrates Rosa Luxemburg’s memory, writings and struggle. The title is drawn from a sentence written by Luxemburg in a letter sent to her friend Hans Diefenbach during her time in prison in 1917.
The publication carries, among others, the memories of a solo show presented at the Galeria Municipal do Porto in 2022 and collects some of the works that artist Milena Bonilla have made following her research on Luxemburg, narcotic plants and epistemic resistance. The volume also includes a series of writings by Vivian Ziherl, Filipa Ramos, Juan Luis Toboso, as well as a conversation between the artist and curator Isabeli Santiago.
That night we will have a powerful music set from the South played by DJ Bebé, a reading of scraps from the essay “Nature Inside Out” by curator and researcher Vivian Ziherl and a projection of Milena’s work.

Rosa was a tireless advocate for the rights of oppressed indigenous people around the world. Her opposition to imperialism and war continues to haunt a world that perhaps, this time, could wake up from the colonial narcosis of capital accumulation.
