Have you wondered what’s behind the Staff Only door ?
Have you struggled returning something you bought online ?
Do you have epic feelings about shopping ?
We invite you to join our group of shopping lovers, haters, indifferent anti-capitalists, shoplifters, life hackers, disgruntled customers and others affected to concoct a story together. This will be a tale of two shopping malls. Or two shoppers queuing for the latest drop. Or two cities besieged by the latest H&M Group franchise. Or all of this combined and more. You choose.
We will brainstorm together characters, storylines and situations in commerce for fun, or cheeky critical writing, or cathartic expression, or unexpected confession. Again, you choose.
We are looking for voices. You don’t have to be a writer, but you have to be text-curious. Our workshops will be dynamic, possibly physical, so do not expect writing in the traditional sense. Our efforts will form a novella authored collectively to be published in the first half of 2023.
The workshops will take place for five consecutive weeks, starting November 9 and running every Wednesday evening (19—22h) until the beginning of December, with possibly more sessions to be decided collectively. Participation is free of charge and limited to 8 participants.

SHOP LITERATI is organised by Bruno Zhu, member of A Maior a homeware, clothing store and curatorial program located in Viseu, Portugal. The project is part of the year-long residency of A Maior at San Serriffe looking at the crossovers between retail and publishing cultures.
Bruno Zhu (b. 1991, Portugal) is an artist living and working between Amsterdam and Viseu. Recent projects include presentations at Galerie Fons Welters in Amsterdam, What Pipeline in Detroit (MI), Cordova in Barcelona and HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark in Graz.
