SIMULTANEITY, CONFERENCE by Min Oh
with an introduction by Min Oh, a screening of excerpts, and a conversation with the performers

SIMULTANEITY, CONFERENCE, one of seven works in Min Oh’s SIMULTANEITY series, is a conversation, a dance, a time-based installation, and—simultaneously—music. It premiered at De Appel, Amsterdam, in 2024 as a live performance, and was exhibited as a time-based installation at ARKO Art Center, Seoul, from May to July 2026. Now it arrives as a vinyl record.
It was originally conceived as a discourse on the techniques of collaboration, and was itself a mise en abyme: a proposition that the technique most needed in collaboration might be the technique of discourse. Eventually it was choreographed in four acts that pass from discourse into dance. Across the acts, text becomes utterance, and utterance expands—into sound, expression, minute gesture, action, kinetic energy.
But collaboration asks, above all, for listening—and listening is not a matter of the auditory alone. What we think we heard may in fact be something we saw, or something we felt move. In turning the live performance into an audio-visual installation, voices layered between the written and the aleatoric, tempi wavered between knowing and not knowing, rhythms emerged between resolution and deferral. To ask what listening is, it had to listen with every sense, not the ear alone; to ask again, it returns to the ear. From it, everything but sound now falls away—the written, the visual. Music being relations among sounds organized in time, what remains is music. What is there to hear in it? Having veered outside of sound and returned wholly to it, how will listening have changed?
Released by Workroom Specter in 2026, the LP returns to Amsterdam after its Seoul launch.
